Denial
What does it actually mean to be in denial? It means you are stating that something isn’t true even though it is true. You are in effect being like an ostrich and sticking your head in the ground in order not to see what is really going on.
Some people have a psychological defence mechanism (abnegation) where they go into a position of denial because something is too painful or uncomfortable to face. When one sits in a place of denial they can go on pretending that everything is ok, living in ignorance and refusing to look at the evidence. After a while living this way can have catastrophic results. Many can live in denial for years, sitting in what seems like a comfort zone but then realising they may be sitting in nasty, dirty, negative, unhealthy surroundings. Denial stops you from looking at self, stops you from dealing with your uncomfortableness, your pain, and quite frankly, your shit.
Being in a state of denial you will do almost anything to not look at; let’s call it, “your stuff”. You may eat and drink excessively, take drugs, lead a promiscuous life, party all the time, work long hours, obsess about housework, focus unduly on your children and your partner, extended family and friends. You are more interested in other people’s business but your own, so you keep busy, doing doing doing instead of just being. If you dare to stop and just be, you become frantic and fearful of what might present itself. However you are a “human being” not a human doing. You are a beautiful soul who does not deserve to be suffering endlessly. If you are constantly doing in order to avoid your stuff you will run yourself ragged and get ill.
Anything that you do not deal with on an emotional psychological or spiritual level will manifest as a physical illness or disease. This is called psychosomatic illness. An example of this is cancer which manifests due to the following reasons:
Feeling limited, angry, fearful, out of control.
Carrying wounds from the past.
Not feeling good enough, shrinking inside and attacking yourself from within.
Feeling like guilt, grief and uncertainty are eating away at your body.
On guard, never able to relax and let go.
Often pushing yourself to do more than you can handle.
Trying to please others and constantly seeking approval.
This is the general list for cancer (taken from the book – The Secret Language of the Body by Inna Segal); there are more specific reasons for each type of cancer but hopefully you get the point.
Do you see why it is so very important to come out of denial and look at self? Yes it may be scary, but you don’t have to do it alone. You need to love yourself and treat yourself as a priority. Learn to explore, get to know you, every part of you, the good and the bad. Shadow work can be so powerful, it helps you to accept, learn, let go, heal and grow.
When you come out of denial and start the process you will begin to see the magic happen; you deserve this! Staying in denial no longer serves you. We are living in a time where the planet is going through a thorough cleansing and healing process as part of the planet you too have to go through that process, because you are indeed connected.
How about your children, your grand-children and future generations? Don’t you want better for them? Don’t you want to break the unhealthy and dysfunctional family patterns that permeate through your ancestral lineage, past and present? Don’t your descendants deserve better? Do you want to continue in your denial and continue to see them suffer too? Surely not! How selfish would that be? You see, it’s not just about you it’s about your family and indeed humanity.
We cannot continually sit in denial and expect things to improve for us. We need to raise our own personal vibration and that in turn will help raise the vibration of humanity and the planet. Let’s face it, things just cannot continue the way they are can they?
Granted, we are all at a different points of our journey and that is absolutely fine. However, there comes a time when one has to start being the change they want to see in this world. We all have to start taking responsibility and do our bit in order for us to see global change.
So if your life isn’t how you want it to be, if your relationships are failing, if you are stuck, if your prospects are making you feel depressed, if your family is in disarray then what are you doing about it? Are you doing the same things over and over and expecting different results? If so, that is insanity! I’m sure you don’t want to be seen as insane, do you? So it’s time to do something about it. Time to act now. Don’t delay, because your mental, your physical and psychological health depends on you doing something now. Your children, your grandchildren are depending on you to act now and start making a difference. It’s time to cause some major shifts in your timeline in order to see lasting and permanent charge.
And remember you do not have to do this alone. If coming out of denial fills you with absolute dread then find someone who can help you on this next phase of your journey.
